Interior designers Anna Hart Design have created the Glenbervie Bar at the Mullion Cove Hotel, Cornwall. The result is a nod to the hotel’s hay days of the early 20th century with touches of art deco design.
‘Our overall aim’, commented designer Anna Hart, ‘was that the interior should be suitably integrated with the existing hotel; to make the combination of a dining room and bar function effectively, with an appropriate selection of finishes, seating and lighting. The brief had to address practical issues of combining hotel and non-residents within one space.’
Upholstered wall panels and full drop curtaining in decorative fabrics provide the back drop to the space whilst the central bar, which cleverly divides the room, becomes the showcase piece.
The bar features finely detailed fret work, rich walnut wood with contrasting inlays are lit with classic feature pendants from British lighting manufacturers Chelsom.
“We wanted our new bar to reflect the age and style of the building but at the same time offer something a little different to other areas of the hotel.” says Matthew Grouse, Director of the Mullion Cove Hotel. “The design also had to deal with issue of differing markets and the new central bar works perfectly in separating diners and drinkers. The overall effect of the design is better than we could have hoped for – simply stunning. “
An impressive, yet approachable space welcomes guests to enjoy an intimate and relaxed environment. The combination of materials, textured upholstery with decorative joinery, creates a refined and sophisticated environment with a timeless quality.
